Report reaching us indicates that the city of Maiduguri in Borno state has been rocked by sounds of multiple explosions and artillery gun fire.
Sources within the town said the explosions and gunshots were heard Saturday morning at about 7:11am.
One of the source said they heard three explosions in succession and was followed by heavy gunfire.
However, the exact location of the explosion and gunfire was not immediately available. But the source observed a heavier presence of security personnel inside the metropolis of Maiduguri.
It is also not immediately known if the explosion was a a result of the action of the military or the extremist Boko Haram sect, who have been aiming to enter and capture the town.
The military few weeks ago claimed responsibility for similar explosions and gunfire, stating that it was an exercise carried out to scare away the Boko Haram insurgents.
