Pirates, JTF Clash leaves One Soldier Dead


A gun battle between suspected pirates and officials of the Joint Task Force, JTF, Operation Pulo Shield in Bayelsa State has reportedly left one soldier dead.
Officials of the JTF in patrol on Niger Delta waterways The Nation reports that the tragedy which also left other soldiers with bullets wounds happened on the Orukiri waterways in Nembe Local Government Area of the state. It was gathered that the JTF officials were on patrol when they ran into the pirates, who were on a speedboat.
It was learnt that the hoodlums opened fire on the security operatives who flagged them down for a routine security check. The soldiers, whoever, engaged the pirates in a gun duel where one of the soldiers named Rabiu, was reportedly hit by bullet.
Rabiu was said to have died at the Brass Terminal operated by the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC), where him and others with bullets wounds were taken to for medical attention.
The injured comprised the driver of the patrol boat, who was said to be a civilian, as well as others security operatives.

When the Media Coordinator of JTF, Lt.-Col. Mustapha Anka, was contacted for comment, he said the suspected pirates were successfully repelled by the patrol team.
