Obasanjo Escalates War Against Jonathan, Calls President "Evil"

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has again torn at President Goodluck Jonathan, saying Nigerian democracy remained at risk due to the action of the present administration.

Speaking at a book Launch in honour of the pioneer chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, Mustapha Akanbi‎, in Abuja, Mr. Obasanjo, who is the Chairman of the occasion, said the president should stop encouraging ‘verbal violence which may not physically hurt but has ways of degenerating into physical violence’.Former Olusegun Obasanjo

Mr. Obasanjo said the greatest indictment against any administration is to be seen trying to destroy opposition of all sort‎s which invariably mean destroying democracy.

“Management of democracy without resorting to brute force and dictatorial tendencies must be cultivated,” the former President said.

“As a leader, you must not deliberately do evil or condone evil. You should know that you will one day give account to God, you may cover up here, but before God, there is no cover up.”

The former president also spoke at lenght on the President’s handling of the Boko Haram insurgency, ‎corruption, the economy and youth unemployment.

On insecurity, Mr. Obasanjo said Boko Haram is not out to “frustrate anyone’s political efforts” and lamented that it took Mr. Jonathan the years to ‎fully understand the menace.

On corruption, Mr. Obasanjo said, “when the head is rotten, the whole body is useless”

On the economy, he said Nigeria would continue to sink deeper and that what Nigerians are told about the state of the economy “is not truly what the economy is”.

“The economy is in doldrums, if not in reverse,” he said.

Mr. Obasanjo’s latest attack on the President is coming seven days after he rated Mr. Jonathan’s performance as below average.

The former president had spoken last weekend in Abeokuta while addressing book writers as part of activities marking the Ake Arts and Book Festival.

“I rate this current administration below average,” Mr. Obasanjo said in response to a question about Mr. Jonathan’s performance.

The former president also said he deserved credit for helping an individual from a minority tribe become Nigeria’s President. “Rather than take blame for bringing Jonathan to power, I should be taking credit,” he added.

The Nigerian presidency responded Sunday, slamming Mr. Obasanjo and describing his rating as untrue and misleading. In a statement in Abuja, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, said

Mr. Obasanjo’s rating was at variance “with the facts on the ground”.

Mr. Okupe said President Jonathan had performed so well that “in terms of performance and achievements, no administration since 1960 when Nigeria gained independence from Britain, has done as much as that of President Jonathan”.

Davido Spends Over N15m on 22nd Birthday Party in Las Vegas

Nigeria’s multiple award winning pop star, Davido turned 22 years old on Friday, November 21, 2014, and to celebrate it, the singer went all out to make it a grand one. Buhari’s aircraft barred from landing at Makurdi Airport

A chartered aircraft conveying former Head of State and All Progressive Congress, APC, presidential aspirant, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (rtd) and his entourage, was Wednesday allegedly denied landing rights by the authoriities of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, in Makurdi,  Benue State.

Vanguard gathered from a reliable source that Gen. Buhari, alongside his entourage, was travelling from Bayelsa State to Makurdi to woo delegates of his party ahead of the APC delegates congress scheduled for December but had their flight denied permission to touch down in Makurdi.

According to him, “the flight was earlier granted landing permission but we were all surprised when half an hour to his arrival a counter directive was issued mid-flight thereby forcing the aircraft to head to Abuja.

“What they did was evil and dangerous, what if the plane was low on fuel, what do you think would have happened? Desperation has set into our politics, and it is posing grave danger to our democracy.”

When contacted on phone, the Benue State Chairman of the APC, Comrade Abba Yaro confirmed the development describing it as unfortunate.

He explained that loyalists of the party who had laid siege at the airport Wednesday morning were disappointed and had to disperse when they learnt of the unfortunate development.

“We will certainly react to this ugly incident because what they have done was not only callous and wicked but also unacceptable in modern day Nigeria.”

All attempts to speak with officials of FAAN in Makurdi on the matter failed as they all declined to comment on the issue.

Nigerian Man Sentenced To Death For Drug Trafficking In Malaysia

A Nigerian man, Abuchi Ngwoke, 35, was sentenced to death today November 25th, by a Malaysian Hight Court on a drug trafficking conviction .

Ngwoke was arrested at a Malaysian airport in 2012 after being found with 251.66 grams of Methamphetamine. According to reports, he swallowed gemstones in Nigeria before boarding a flight to Malaysia.

A date has not yet been set for his execution.

Twins become dads on the same day, at the same hospital

Twin brother Jeromme and Jarelle beat 150,000-1 odds to become dads on the same day at the same hospital by the same midwife after their partners gave birth on Monday November 24th. And they both had baby boys.

According to UK Mirror, the twins were initially shocked when told their partners had the same due date of Nov. 26, but neither believed they would both be celebrating on that date. But remarkably, the pair became fathers within a few hours of each other when their sons were born at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton in the early hours of Monday.

Incredibly, both babies were born in the same water pool in the same room and were delivered by the same midwife.

Jeromme's partner Tegan Compton, 19, was first to give birth when 8lb 7oz Cameron arrived into the world at 2.04am on Monday morning.

Jarrell's girlfriend Francesca Ashe, 19, then followed suit when she delivered 7lb 11oz Cassen two-and-a-half hours later at 4.34am.

Jeromme, who works in a sports shop, said: "We knew that our partners were both given the same due date, but we just never expected the births to be really on the same day.

"Tegan and me came in first and little Cameron was born just a few hours later. Then the pool was washed and cleaned, and we handed over to Jarrell and Francesca."

Jarrell, who works for a catering firm, added: "We got here at about two in the morning and we could hear someone's voice and I said, 'that's Tegan'.

"Mum was with me so when Tegan gave birth she went over to see her grandson and then a couple of hours later she had another one. It is absolutely amazing that we became fathers of sons on the same day. It is great for everyone and everyone at the hospital was great."

Midwife Barbara Kapoor, who delivered both babies, said: "I have never ever heard of this happening before. It is amazing."

Alex Donohue, from Ladbrokes bookmakers, added: "This is so rare. The odds of it happening are at least 150,000 - 1."

Why Amaechi dumped tattered umbrella for the broom

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state has cleared the air on why the state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi dumped the tattered umbrella of the doomed Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for the APC despite having spoken negatively about the APC symbol in the past.

The party also warned blackmailers who are so frightened by the high national political profile of Amaechi and are desperate to bring him down to look for something better to do as Rivers people and, indeed, Nigerians are too politically advanced to be easily deceived by unserious minds that clutch at straws in their quest for political relevance.

Rivers APC said in a statement issued in Port Harcourt by the State Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya: There is a time and season for everything under the sun, as the Holy Book rightly says. It is disgraceful that empty minds that cannot stand the rigours of intellectual political debate are making so much fuss about a 2011 statement credited to Governor Amaechi to the effect that ‘those who carry brooms are night soil men and juju priests’.

The party stated that “Like the true African that he is, Amaechi was speaking in parables but suffice it to say that he did not in any way contradict himself by later dumping the torn umbrella of the doomed Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the clean-sweeping broom of the APC.”

Rivers APC insisted that Amaechi was 100 per cent right in his 2011 statement and had to take his leave from the PDP when the mess by the PDP-controlled Federal Government under the watch of President Goodluck Jonathan became an unmistakable threat to the very survival of the country, thus leaving all patriots with no other option than to join the league of proverbial night soil men.

Dr Ikanya averred that the mess by the PDP-led government of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as manifested in monumental corruption, suffocating insecurity and strangulating economic hardship is such that every Nigerian patriot needs to carry brooms to flush out this evil party and clean up the country for the sake of present and future generations.

“There is no gainsaying that going by the present sorry state of Nigeria, the country desperately needs good night soil men to clean up PDP’s faeces. Indeed, it is time for all those who truly love Nigeria to bring the brooms out and get down to work with APC’s broom revolution as we seek to bring about change after forming the next government in 2015,” Rivers APC said.

The party berated the faceless Association of Concerned Indigenes of Rivers State and other faceless groups being promoted by the Presidency and Rivers State PDP Leader, Nyesom Wike, “for wasting billions of taxpayers’ money on a worthless advertorial in some national and Port Harcourt based papers in its doomed propaganda campaign that can only make Governor Amaechi and APC stronger as they work to salvage Nigeria from the evil grip of PDP.”

The party advised “Wike and his cohorts to find something better to do as nobody is interested in their childish propaganda campaign which was doomed to fail from the very beginning.”

Dwindling Oil Price: CBN devalues naira, raises lending rate

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has announced a new official naira-to-dollar exchange rate, forcing down the Nigerian currency by 13 naira, as the country struggles to reshape its fiscal policies in response to dwindling oil price.

The bank devalued the naira at its monetary policy committee, MPC, meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, where it also reviewed Nigeria’s monetary policy rate from 12 per cent to 13 per cent.

The monetary policy rate highlights lending rate for the country’s economy.

The naira will now exchange officially at N168 to a dollar, and no longer N155, the bank said.

The bank also moved the private cash reserve ratio from 15 per cent to 20 per cent, while retaining public sector cash reserve ratio at 75 percent.

The CBN said the decision to lower the value of naira against the dollar is to strengthen the currency.

Mr. Emefiele noted the continued drop in global crude oil prices and reiterated the call on the government and the National Assembly to speed up the process towards the immediate passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, which has been pending passage for the past two years.

The committee urged the government to take advantage of the declining oil prices to cut down on subsidies on supply of petroleum products in the 2015 budget, while states and Local Government should step up efforts to boost their internally generated revenue and reduce reliance on revenues from the federation account.

The CBN governor assured that the bank remained committed to maintain financial system stability, while warning against speculative activities that drive inflation.

Actor Osita Iheme, otherwise known as Pawpaw, has said there is no reason for him and his popular screen friend, Aki, real names Chinedu Ikedieze, to break up whether now or in the future.
Speaking with R recently, Pawpaw said that Aki’s fans misinterpreted his statement in a recent interview that the duo had separated. This raised fears in the movie industry and among the actor’s worried fans on what could have led their parting of ways.
